Youth caught with 1 kg heroin, Rs 90,000 drug money in Kapurthala

Kapurthala, Jan 17: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Kapurthala police on Thursday apprehended a youth with 1 kg of heroin and ?90,000 in cash, suspected to be proceeds of drug sales.

The accused, identified as Anmolpreet Singh (27), a resident of Main Bazar, Jamsher in Jalandhar, was nabbed during a routine patrol. A white Toyota Innova car used by the accused has also been seized.

Kapurthala Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora stated that the operation was part of an ongoing campaign against anti-social elements. The drive was spearheaded by SP (Investigation) Sarabjit Singh and DSP (Detective) Paramjit Singh. Inspector Jarnail Singh, in charge of the CIA staff, Kapurthala, led the police team during the patrolling.

The youth was intercepted at the Dhilwan naka early in the morning while traveling from Amritsar to Jalandhar. A driver by profession, Anmolpreet Singh was allegedly involved in drug peddling.

SP Sarabjit Rai confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused under Section 21C of the NDPS Act at Dhilwan police station.

During interrogation, Anmolpreet admitted to his involvement in drug smuggling. He revealed that the seized heroin was intended for distribution. Authorities are now working to trace the supply chain and identify other individuals connected to the drug network.

Further investigations are underway.
