Udupi, Jan 20: The ongoing construction of the overpass at Ambalpady junction has diverted all vehicles to the service road, leading to severe traffic congestion largely caused by vehicles parked along the service road.
Commuters frequently park their vehicles on the service road to shop at nearby stores, causing bottlenecks and obstructing the smooth flow of traffic. This is particularly concerning as the service road is currently the only route available for all vehicles, including heavy vehicles such as buses and trucks.
Heavy vehicles traveling along the service road encounter significant challenges due to the haphazardly parked vehicles, resulting in delays and heightened risks of accidents.
Additionally, with vehicles traveling in both directions on the service road, the risk of collisions has increased. Road users are urged to exercise caution while navigating this stretch and strictly adhere to parking regulations to ease the problem.
The congestion is further aggravated by the presence of commercial complexes, private hospitals, star hotels, and wedding halls in the area. Visitors to these establishments often park their vehicles on the service road, worsening traffic issues. Furthermore, an auto stand in front of a private hospital disrupts the flow of traffic even further.
Social worker Vishu Shetty Ambalpady expressed concerns about the situation, stating, “The service road has become the main route for commuters here, and people must exercise caution. The district administration should raise public awareness about the importance of maintaining traffic flow. Parking vehicles on the service road causes jams and creates fear among commuters using this stretch.”
He further emphasized the need for public patience and cooperation during the construction period. “The police department should enforce speed limits on the service road, and heavy vehicle drivers must remain cautious, especially with two-wheelers traveling in the opposite direction. People must also avoid parking their vehicles on the road.”
