Mangalore: BJP Govt made Police Dept Inactive, Alleges Poojary

Mangalore, Jan 4 (DHNS): Former union minister B Janardhan Poojary alleged that the BJP government led by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has made the police department inactive in the State.

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, he said when the police initiated action against the culprits in Sullia, the Sangha Parivar members pelted stones at the police. However, later, the government suspended one SI and two constables on the grounds of dereliction of duty and Superintendent of Police was transferred. In reality, the government is acting on the directions of the Sangha Parivar. The police are innocent.

What the Director General of Police is doing in the State? Instead of protecting his own men, he is trying to save his chair by supporting the State government, Poojary alleged.

Police are functioning day-in-and-day out to maintain law and order in the State. If the department which they are serving fails to protect them, then why there is a DGP? he asked.

Preventing a public servant from discharging a duty is a offence and action should have been initiated against the Sangha Parivar members. The Sangha Parivar convenor had spoken provocatively in the public meeting which was held at Sullia organised to condemn the incident of police action. If Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence (Access to Justice and Reparations) Bill, 2011 is passed, then there would be no scope for such provocative speeches.

D V Sadananada Gowda who hails from Dakshina Kannada district is trying to create vote bank by initiating action against the innocent police officers. The police department has been weakened by such incidents.

He alleged that Chief Minister is trying to create coastal district a republic of Sangha Parivar. The Sangha Parivar is trying to divide the society for creating vote bank as the election is nearing.

The State government should have initiated action against the culprits for hoisting Pakistan flag in Bijapur. This is the second such incident which had occurred in Bijapur.
