Beltangady: SDMCET to Sign MoU with State Government

Beltangady, Jan 6: Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Engineering and Technology (SDMCET), Dharwad, a premier institution of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational Society, will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka government on Monday January 9 at 11.00 am.
 
The MoU will be signed by Siddaiah IAS, principal secretary, higher education, witnessed by   H U Talawar, director of technical education representing the Karnataka government, and by Dr S Mohan Kumar, principal, SDMCET, witnessed by Dr B Yashovarma, secretary, SDME Society, Ujire, under the gracious presence of Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari and president of the Society, Dr V S Acharya, state education minister, NPIU / SPFU officials, governing council members, and other dignitaries.
 
SDMCET, a 32-year-old institution, under the able leadership of Dr Heggade, has grown into one of the nationally acclaimed premier engineering institutions in the country.  The Institution is now one among 15 colleges granted autonomy by the Government of Karnataka and the first graduation ceremony of the first batch of autonomous students was held recently where 564 students graduated and 9.68 was the highest CGPA. The institution maintained consistent ranking amongst the top 50 institutions in the country.  

The Institution is engaged in imparting quality education in seven undergraduate engineering programmes, and 4 post graduate engineering programmes.   SDMCET is one amongst only two fully private colleges in Karnataka to be a TEQIP beneficiary for Phase-I which has been successfully operated and achieved remarkable progress.  Consequent to this, the National Project Implementation Unit (NPIU), Noida, sent an intimation of selection for participation under sub-component 1.2 of the Project TEQIP –II, in the first lot with 14 Institutions and MoU is due for execution.
 
This TEQIP Phase 1.2 is exclusively meant for post graduate and research activities of the institution.  SDMCET is one of the top 15 engineering colleges in the state and 40 colleges in the country to qualify for the TEQIP 1.2 grants.  This funding will help the Institute to achieve greater heights of technical excellence and quality improvement to cater to the needs of about 3,000 students on the campus and many prestigious MoUs with reputed industries will soon follow this programme bringing high index campus placement. TEQIP Phase 1.2 grant is to the tune of Rs 12.5 crore to Rs 15 crore which will mainly focus on carrying out research and development activities and state-of-the-art PG courses.
