Kadaba, Jan 28: In a major breakthrough, police apprehended Suraj, an interstate burglary accused originally from Kerala, for a daylight theft that occurred on December 18 in Alankar. The police conducted an inspection of the crime scene on Monday evening.
Suraj was accused of stealing gold ornaments worth lacs of rupees. The theft took place at the residence of Sudhakar Poojary, a PWD contractor, former vice president of Alankar gram panchayat, and director of the Alankar Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society, located along the Alankar-Sharavoor Road.
On the day of the incident, Sudhakar Poojary was at his farmland in Kunthoor, his children were at school, and his wife, Soumya, had locked the house and gone to a nearby plantation. Upon returning home in the afternoon, she discovered the theft. The burglar had broken in through the rear door by kicking it open and stolen valuable items, including Soumya’s gold necklace, four gold rings belonging to the children, and silver ornaments.
The Puttur rural, Vittal, and Kadaba police collaboratively arrested Suraj, who had been residing in Moodambail village near Hosangady, Manjeshwar. The authorities recovered stolen property, including gold ornaments, worth Rs 21 lac from the accused.
