Udupi, Jan 28: On the occasion of cervical cancer awareness month Adarsha Hospital, Udupi hosted cervical cancer screening camp at New OPD, Adarsh Hospital Udupi on January 28.
The event was inaugurated by lighting the lamp symbolically by Dr G S Chadrashekar, medical director of Adarsha Hospital, along with other dignitaries.
Dr G S Chadrashekar, medical director of Adarsha Hospital, on the occasion said, “Diseases are increasing. Over the course of the year viral, other diseases and cancer diseases are increasing. Even after organizing various awareness programmes, we are not able to overcome these diseases. Only when people participate in the programme does it become successful. Along with other diseases cancer is increasing. Everyone has this fear that cancer is incurable.
"But we can cure, prevent and treat cancer, people lack this information. We are the reason for the increase in cancer, one reason is that increase in life span and other important reasons are our habits like smoking, food and other. The preservatives used for food cause cancer. By spreading awareness about cancer, detecting cancer at an early stage we can cure cancer. Cervical cancer is a curable disease if detected at an early stage. There are many who have won cancer and are leading a happy and successful life. Everyone must take HPV vaccination, so we can prevent cancer.”
Sureka, president Inner Wheel Club, said, “Our association has organized various awareness programmes and is continuously working on helping the needy. When we planned to organize a cervical cancer awareness program, in other places, no ladies came forward due to fear. We are thankful to the Hospital for providing us the opportunity to organize this program, we wish to organize more awareness programs to organize in support of the Adarsha Hospital.”
Dr Ranjitha S Nayak, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, in her welcome address said, “January month is celebrated as cervical cancer awareness month. The main aim of this programme is to inform people of how cervical cancer is caused and how we can prevent it.
Followed by the inauguration a HPV vaccination drive for prevention of cervical cancer and session on cervical cancer and HPV vaccination awareness from Dr Ranjitha S Nayak, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist and Dr Damayanthi, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist were held.
The camp provided a 50 percent discount on doctors consultation, cervical cancer detection pap smear done with 50 percent discount and HPV vaccination given at a discounted price of Rs 1600.
The programme began with the prayer song by the hospital staff members. Anushree compered the event.
The event was attended by senior consultant Dr Damayanthi and, chief executive officer Vimala Chandrashekar, secretary Inner Wheel Club Padmini Bhat, as well as students, staff and other dignitaries.
