Lucknow, Jan 7 (Agencies): Ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission is likely to take a decision on Saturday on whether to cover up statues of chief minister Mayawati and that of the Bahujan samaj Party's poll symbol, the elephant.
According to a media reports the EC may take a decision on this at its meeting on Saturday evening as many political parties, including the BJP, have complained that the statues give the BSP an unfair advantage.
The BJP had demanded that the Election Commission should order removal of statues of elephants - the poll symbol of BSP - installed in the state.
"Though government hoardings and advertisements were removed after model code of conduct came into effect, the statues of elephants have not been removed," BJP national spokesman Ramnath Kovid had said in Lucknow on last Saturday.
