Brahmavar, Jan 30: Kota police have registered a suo-motu case against an individual for spreading false information regarding an incident in which a calf’s tail was allegedly cut off by a so-called "fanatic salesman."
According to a complaint filed by Raghavendra C, PSI Kota, on January 30, 2025, he received information while on duty about a misleading message circulating on social media and other platforms. The message falsely claimed that a fanatic salesman had severed the tail of a calf at the residence of Nagesh Mayya in Gundmi village, Brahmavar.
The investigation revealed that on January 28, 2025, at around 2:00 PM, an unidentified elderly man, approximately 60 years old, visited Nagesh Mayya’s house seeking financial assistance. When Mayya and his wife, Ahalya, declined, the man left.
Later that day, around 4 PM, while Nagesh Mayya was in the cowshed preparing to milk his cow, he discovered that the sleeping calf’s tail had been severed after the cow accidentally stepped on it.
At approximately 8:00 PM, Mayya’s son, Anil Mayya, upon learning about the incident, allegedly distorted the facts. Without verifying the truth, he, along with others, falsely claimed that a fanatic salesman had intentionally cut off the calf’s tail. They then circulated a photograph of the severed tail on social media, which led to unnecessary panic.
Upon investigation, PSI Raghavendra found that the news was fabricated with the intent to disrupt social harmony and incite fear within the community.
A case has been registered at Kota police station against those responsible for spreading the false narrative.
