Lucknow, Jan 9: With electioneering in full swing, poll promises are also raining.
Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav announced during an election rally at Barabanki around 30 km from Lucknow that he will provide free irrigation water, free medicine in hospitals and free education to all after assuming power.
"Take my words as I am committed on it. We will be fulfilling our promises," he said amidst thunderous applause. Despite people prompting for free power, Mulayam did not consent. "We will see how electricity can be available for the villages," he said perhaps realising the daunting task.
Mulayam also highlighted the points for voting against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). "It is the most corrupt government. Rapes and crime have become order of the day. CM is interested only in minting money. If SP comes to power, all these officials will be in jail," he said.
Prior to him, Azam Khan made the ground for Mulayam to address the meeting. Akin to his emotional style Azam's speech was laced with couplets and aimed at Muslims.
Azam also decried the Congress for backstabbing Muslims through the Muslim reservation issue. "It is for whole minority which will not benefit Muslims. Congress has the history of backstabbing which it did in 1949 by putting idols in Babri Masjid, opening the lock of Babri Masjid, performing Shilanyas etc. We should be aware of Congress ploy and defeat its nefarious designs," he said.
