Udupi, Feb 3: The newly extended government bus service between Udupi and Angarakatte, which was supposed to begin operations on Monday, February 3, failed to run, leaving the public disappointed.
The local residents were eagerly awaiting the arrival of the bus, with banners, buntings, and flowers prepared to greet it. However, the bus did not show up, causing frustration among the crowd.
Information about the bus service had been communicated to the public by the traffic commissioner of Mangalore and the bus depot manager in Udupi. Unfortunately, the service did not operate due to a technical fault.
Since the pandemic, there has been an increased need for bus services, especially among students and working professionals in the area. The public was excited to welcome the new service, but the failure to operate caused widespread dismay.
Prior to this, local activists like Ganesh Raj Saralebettu and Congress leader Mohan Das Nayak Parkala, along with residents, had been requesting a government bus service. It had been indicated that the bus would also travel through Moodubelle. However, the lack of service left the public disappointed.
Ganesh Raj Saralebettu, a social worker, said, “It was announced that the bus would operate from Udupi to Angarakatte Health Centre (Primary Health Centre). The locals were prepared to welcome the bus, but it did not depart due to a technical fault, as informed by the depot manager. The bus was supposed to come at 8:20 am, but it failed to operate. We had previously requested a government bus service in the region, and we were informed that a bus would operate through Moodubelle. But since the bus didn’t arrive, the public was left disappointed. When we contacted the depot manager, he informed us that due to short staffing, the bus failed to operate. Providing a bus service in the region is not enough; it should operate daily and be properly managed.”
