Delivering the keynote address, chief guest P Pradeep Kumar highlighted the role of education in today’s interconnected world. “Empathy, vision, and leadership are essential for modern managers and they must be capable of making ethical and sustainable decisions while challenging the status quo,” he said. He called for greater integration of AI and industry collaboration in academic curricula, noting that digital transformation and globalization trends are reshaping industries. The ongoing US-China trade war could create new opportunities for India, while tier-2 cities are poised for growth due to land constraints in metro areas, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Praveen Martis emphasized that vision and a strong foundation are crucial for an institution’s growth. K Raju Mogaveera urged the MBA students to be globally competitive for India to advance on the world stage. Institute mentor Vittaldas Leeladhar reminisced about his long association with MSNIM, while WNES vice president Jeevandas Narayan attributed the institute’s success to the trust and commitment of its stakeholders.
In his presidential address, Manel Annappa Nayak reflected on the institute’s journey and expressed hope that the Besant Group of Institutions would one day achieve "Deemed to be University" status.
Recognizing contributions and achievements
The institute honoured several key individuals for their contributions, including institute mentor Vittaldas Leeladhar, WNES past president Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy, first director Dr G V Shenoy, and former directors Dr M P Hrishikesh and Dr Narayan Kayarkatte. Long-serving faculty and staff members, including former assistant professor Rashmi H., former librarian Ashalatha, and administrative staff Yogitha Shetty, Jyothi Shetty, Tanuja Jogi, Sarvamangala G, Devaki, and Shivaraj, were also felicitated. Additionally, all rank holders since the institute’s inception were recognized for their academic excellence.
The event which began with planting of saplings on the campus by the dignitaries was anchored by associate professor Dr Reema Agnes Frank. Students led by assistant professor Sathvika Shetty rendered the invocation. Assistant professor Nanditha Sunil read the felicitations. A souvenir publication was released on the occasion. Institute correspondent Ajith Kamath gave a vote of thanks. A vibrant cultural programme by students brought the celebrations to a fitting close.
A legacy of excellence
MSNIM was established in 1999 as the first private management institute affiliated with Mangalore University, operating from its own 3.5-acre campus in Bondel. Sponsored by the Women’s National Education Society (WNES), the institute is part of the Besant Group of Institutions, founded in 1918 by Dr Annie Besant, a renowned theosophist, freedom fighter and social reformer.
Initially named Manel Srinivas Nayak Besant Institute of postgraduate studies, the institute rebranded as Manel Srinivas Nayak Institute of Management to reflect its evolving vision. It shifted to its spacious new building in the same campus in 2015, inaugurated by Dr Y V Reddy, former governor of the Reserve Bank of India.
Over 25 years, MSNIM has graduated 1,446 MBA students, many of whom have excelled globally. The institute has produced 17 university rank holders, inspired 49 alumni entrepreneurs contributing to India’s growth, and fostered research, with three scholars awarded PhDs and more pursuing their doctorates. Reaccredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC in its 3rd cycle recently, MSNIM has consistently upheld its reputation as a premier B-School. As MSNIM steps into the future, it continues to uphold its legacy of excellence, innovation and commitment to shaping world-class management professionals.
