Mangaluru, Feb 10: The bachelor of commerce students (Regular and CMA) of St Agnes College embarked on an enriching educational trip to Ooty from February 4 to 6. The trip was organized under the guidance of Nimitha K, dean of commerce and business administration, and Vineetha N T, head of the department of commerce.
A total of 50 students participated in this journey, which aimed to provide practical exposure to cultural heritage, industry, history, and tourism resources in Ooty.
Day 1: Journey to Ooty & exploring key attractions
The journey commenced on February 4 from the college premises. After an overnight travel, the group reached Ooty on February 5. Upon arrival, the students checked into their accommodation to freshen up and have breakfast. The exploration of Ooty began.
The first destination was Doddabetta, the highest peak in the Nilgiris, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The visit was followed by a tour of a tea factory and a chocolate factory, where students gained insights into the manufacturing processes of two of Ooty’s most famous products. After a refreshing lunch, the group proceeded to Ooty Lake, where they enjoyed the serene environment and recreational activities.
A major highlight of the day was the toy train journey from Udhagamandalam to Coonoor, a UNESCO-listed heritage train ride that provided a mesmerizing experience through the picturesque Nilgiri Hills. The students then returned to the hotel, where an exciting campfire night was organized, followed by a delightful dinner, making it a perfect end to an eventful day.
Day 2: Exploring nature & history
The second day of exploration began with a visit to Hunger Forest, a beautiful yet lesser-known attraction that offered a deep connection with nature on February 6. The students then proceeded to Wenlock Shooting Point, a popular location known for its scenic beauty, often featured in Indian cinema. This was followed by a visit to the Pine Forest, a mesmerizing location with tall pine trees, providing an ideal spot for photography and nature appreciation.
The final destination was the Botanical Garden, a well-maintained garden showcasing a wide variety of flora, offering an educational experience about plant conservation and horticulture.
The journey concluded with students gaining a profound appreciation for history, nature, and sustainable tourism. The journey organised in collaboration with Jaswik Travels, this educational trip provided students with invaluable learning experiences beyond the classroom. The combination of industry visits, cultural heritage exploration, and scenic beauty made the journey both informative and memorable. The students returned with a deeper understanding of tourism, industry, and environmental conservation, along with cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
