Panaji, Feb 13: In a significant boost to Goa’s industrial landscape, the Goa Investment Promotion Board (IPB) has given the green light to nine projects with a cumulative investment of Rs 733 cr. These projects are expected to generate employment opportunities for 2,319 individuals.

Chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant, who chaired the 38th Board Meeting of the IPB, stated that the approved projects span various sectors, including pharmaceutical manufacturing, warehousing, machine tools production, and beverage manufacturing.

Sawant, along with industries minister Mauvin Godinho, emphasized the need for prioritizing local employment. Industry representatives on the board were urged to collaborate with government agencies to facilitate skill development programmes for Goans.

Among the notable approvals, Procter & Gamble’s subsidiary, Gillette Diversified Operations Pvt Ltd, has received clearance for an expansion to manufacture multi-vitamin tablets and food-grade softgel capsules. Similarly, Zydus Lifesciences Ltd will be setting up a new unit to manufacture Repsules. These approvals reflect Goa’s improving ease of doing business ranking and its growing stature as a competitive hub for exports.

Additionally, under the logistics sector, which has been granted industry status by the Goa government, the Board has approved a large warehousing facility by M/s Express Machines and Scaffolding Pvt Ltd.

Further strengthening Goa’s position as a tourism hub, an earlier approved eco-tourism project in Quepem, now branded under the Indian Hotels Corporation Ltd, has received clearance for expansion. This reaffirms the state’s appeal as both an industrial and tourism-friendly destination.
