Danielle, a 28-year-old Irish tourist, was found murdered in Canacona in 2017. Following a detailed investigation, the Canacona police arrested Vikat Bhagat, who was later chargesheeted for rape and murder.
With the verdict imminent, Danielle’s mother and sister have arrived in Goa, hoping for justice.
Speaking to the media, the victim’s lawyer, Adv Vikram Varma, stated that the case hinges on circumstantial evidence, as no eyewitnesses were present. “The police conducted a thorough investigation, and the prosecution has presented substantial indirect evidence. We are hopeful that justice will be served,” he said.
The judgment is expected to bring closure to a case that has gripped public attention for years.
