Mangaluru: Railway denies assault allegations by retired air force officer

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Feb 18: The Palakkad division of Southern Railway has dismissed allegations made by retired Indian Air Force officer P V Sureshan from Kerala, who claimed that railway police assaulted him at Mangaluru Central railway station, leading to the amputation of his leg.

According to railway authorities, CCTV footage from the station has captured the entire incident. On February 1, Sureshan, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, was found lying on a bench at the station. Railway police personnel on duty asked him to move away from the food plaza area. He was then seen walking away unassisted. This footage has been handed over to the railway police as evidence. The department further stated that no other passengers had filed complaints regarding any alleged assault by railway personnel.

Sureshan was later admitted to Wenlock Hospital for treatment due to his health condition. Medical records indicate that he was suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes, which may have necessitated the amputation of his leg. The railway department stated that there is no evidence of physical assault or forced eviction leading to his medical condition.

Very sad that guy lost his leg. One must be very careful in public behavior especially if intoxicated. Drink at home and don't make public show. He is a decorated officer in nation's defence and must uphold the dignity. There might have been altercations but that might not have led to amputation. Diabetes is a very dangerous condition if ignored for a long time. let us wish him a speedy recovery and wisdom to prevail.

CCTV footages are provided by the department to the same department. There may be some action out of the purview of the lenses. We will never know the true story. However any action by the railway guards may not have resulted in amputation like consequence. This may be purely medical reason. Fact of the matter is poor fellow lost his leg which is very sad. This incident calls for caution against being inebriated in public places. if one wants to drink let him do it within four walls of his home. no one but ourselves are responsible for our fate if we indulge beyond public tolerance.
