Mangaluru, Feb 18: The Mangaluru CCB police arrested four individuals for possessing 119 kg of ganja.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohiudeen Shabbir (38) from Kasaragod, Mahesh Dwarakanath Pandey (30) from Thane, Maharashtra, Ajay Krishnan (30) from Kerala, and Jeevan Singh (35) from Haryana.
An Alto car and a tempo were seized along with the contraband. Acting on a tip-off, the CCB police intercepted two vehicles within the Konaje Police Station limits.




The accused were transporting ganja from Andhra Pradesh to Kerala. A total of 34 kg of ganja was found in the Alto car, while 85 kg was discovered in the 407 vehicle, concealed in fish trays with 40 packs. The vehicles had Andhra Pradesh and Kerala registrations, respectively.
Ganja is cultivated in the forested areas of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, a Naxal-affected region, and is later transported to Karnataka, Kerala, and other states, informed the police.
The main accused, Shabbir, is a habitual offender with 12 cases against him, including charges of murder, ganja possession, cattle theft, and violations under the Arms Act. He was previously arrested for possessing 23 kg of ganja. Ajay Krishnan has six offences against him, while Mahesh Pandey was earlier arrested for possessing 200 kg of ganja, and Jeevan Singh for 65 kg in different police stations.
