Mangaluru, Feb 19: The Centre for Environmental Studies, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) successfully organized a seminar on 'Driving change: Empowering actions for the SDG 2030 agenda' on February 18. The event brought together esteemed academicians and experts to deliberate on the significance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their implications for higher education.
The seminar commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr Bhagya Sharma, deputy director, Centre for Environmental Studies, followed by an insightful introductory note by the registrar, Dr Gangadhara Somayaji K S. Their opening remarks set the stage for an engaging and thought-provoking discussion.







The first session was led by Dr Shrihari S, professor, department of Civil Engineering, NITK who provided a comprehensive Introduction to SDGs, elaborating on their global relevance and the need for collaborative action to achieve these ambitious goals. Following this, Dr Lakshman Nandagiri, professor, department of Water Resources and Ocean Engineering, NITK, delivered an impactful session on Refining the goals of higher education, emphasizing the critical role of educational institutions in fostering sustainability-driven learning and research.
The seminar proved to be an informative and stimulating experience for all attendees, sparking meaningful discussions on the integration of SDGs into academic and institutional frameworks.
The event was skillfully compered by Sreelakshmi, ensuring a seamless flow of sessions. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr R G D’Souza, dean Yenepoya School of Engineering and Technology, who acknowledged the contributions of the speakers, organizers, and participants in making the seminar a success.
