Mangaluru: SJEC all set to celebrate National Science Day on February 28

Media Release

Mangaluru, Feb 20: The National Science Day event at St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC) is set to ignite curiosity and passion for science among students. National Science Day 2025 is scheduled for February 28 and is organized by the SJEC AICTE IDEA Lab in collaboration with the Department of Physics and the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The SJEC AICTE IDEA Lab conducts workshops, training sessions, ideation sessions, boot camps, and competitions to nurture ideas, imagination, and creativity among stakeholders. The facility is open to SJEC students, faculty, and staff, as well as students from other schools and colleges, industry professionals, entrepreneurs, start-ups, and alumni. Equipped with industrial-grade advanced machinery, electronic tools, and testing equipment, complemented by open-source software and trained personnel, the IDEA Lab serves as a hub for learning, innovation, and technical prototyping, fostering both on-campus and local entrepreneurship.

In recent years, the IDEA Lab has trained thousands of schoolchildren and teachers in expertise such as 3D printing, laser cutting and etching, PCB design and manufacturing, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

National Science Day is a flagship event of the IDEA Lab, serving as a networking platform where students can connect with peers from various schools, fostering collaboration and friendships. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to interact with teachers and mentors who can guide them in their academic and career paths.

Following the grand success of previous years, this year’s celebrations promise an exciting line-up of activities aimed at fostering a love for scientific inquiry. In 2024, the event saw participation from 33 schools, 231 enthusiastic students, and 34 dedicated teachers. This continued interest highlights the vital role science plays in education and community engagement.

This year, students can look forward to a variety of competitions, including quizzes and project model exhibitions. These activities will not only provide a platform for students to showcase their creativity and knowledge but also offer opportunities to win awards and recognition, enhancing their academic profiles.

Attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear from esteemed speakers in the field of science and education. Engaging discussions on the latest scientific advancements and the importance of inquiry will inspire and motivate young minds. With a strong emphasis on hands-on learning, participants will engage in practical experiences that make science fun and interactive. Workshops and demonstrations will showcase real-world applications of scientific concepts, further enriching the learning experience.

The National Science Day celebrations at SJEC are not just an event—they are a gateway to a future filled with possibilities. Students are encouraged to register and be part of this enriching experience, which promises to inspire the next generation of innovators.
