Mangaluru, Feb 22: St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, celebrated its College Day for the academic year 2024-2025, embracing the theme ‘Celebrating Diversity’. 

The event was graced by the presence of Prof P L Dharma, the vice chancellor of Mangalore University, who was the chief guest. The distinguished Dr K R Shani, a retired professor of Political Science from University College, Mangaluru, was the guest of honour.

In his address, Prof Dharma extended heartfelt congratulations to the students and faculty for their unwavering commitment to excellence. He emphasized the importance of nurturing a diverse educational environment that fosters inclusivity and innovation.

Expressing happiness and gratitude for the hard work and dedication put up by the parents and teachers. Prof Dharma spoke about the history of St Agnes, the rich heritage, spirit and culture this institution carries over more than a century. He acknowledged all the teachers and this institution for their contribution to the immense growth of the students. St Agnes has always been socially rooted and has implemented this in their student’s growth.

He highlighted the critical role of education in shaping a harmonious society, urging students to embrace their unique identities while contributing to the collective good. The function was presided over by Sr Dr Maria Roopa AC, the joint secretary of St Agnes Institutions. Other dignitaries present were Sr Dr M Venissa AC, the principal; Sr Dr Roopa Rodrigues AC, the vice principal; Sr M Carmelrita AC, the administrator; Sr Dr M Vinora AC, the PG coordinator; Subharekha, the controller of examinations; Dr Sabina Lobo, the IQAC coordinator; management representatives, Ravi Bhat, the PTA vice president; staff coordinators Dr Devi Prabha Alva and Dr Kavyashree K B and student presidents. 

Highlighting the achievements of the institution, Sr Dr M Venissa AC presented the annual report, showcasing the remarkable year and its academic performances, along with the co-curricular and extracurricular endeavours of both students and faculty for  the academic year 2024-25. 

The formal stage programme commenced with a splendid guard of honour, followed by a captivating invocation, a vibrant welcome dance, a stunning Kannada tableau, an exhilarating musical mash-up, a delightful English comedy show, and a mesmerising Nritya Sangam performance, all of which set a celebratory tone for the day.

In recognition of exemplary performances across various domains, the principal’s roll of honour, special prizes, and scholarships were awarded to deserving students. Additionally, the cabinet members of the current academic year received accolades for their outstanding contributions.

The annual report was meticulously prepared by Dr Zubeida, associate professor, department of English, Chethan Kotian, assistant professor in the department of computer animation, Megha Shenoy and Neetha Kripalani, assistant professors in the department of BCA, with invaluable assistance from Gurucharan, the lab technician and Uttam.

The event was compered by the student presidents Privy D'Souza and Prathik Rai of UG and PG respectively along with Geethanjali Prabhu, assistant professor in the department of English.

Vinatha, associate professor in the department of psychology welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest while Dr Ita D’Souza, associate professor in the department of chemistry, graciously proposed the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with the college anthem, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all attendees.
