Lahore, Feb 22: England's Ben Duckett scripted history with the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history, smashing 165 runs to set up a formidable total of 351/8 against Australia at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

After being put in to bat by Steve Smith, England overcame early setbacks with a solid 158-run stand between Duckett and Joe Root (68). The duo anchored the innings through the middle overs, displaying improved batting tactics compared to their recent struggles in India.

Phil Salt gave England a brisk start before falling to Ben Dwarshuis in the second over, courtesy of a stunning catch by Alex Carey at mid-on. Jamie Smith showed promise but departed soon, leaving England at an early wobble.

Root, who notched up his first 50-plus score in 11 ODI innings against Australia, was dismissed for 68 by Adam Zampa in the 31st over. Duckett, however, continued his dominance, playing smartly against spin and accelerating when needed. His 165 surpassed the previous highest individual score in Champions Trophy history.

Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone fell cheaply to spin, but Duckett carried on before being trapped LBW by Marnus Labuschagne in the 48th over. Labuschagne picked up another wicket but leaked 15 runs in the final over, pushing England past the 350-mark.

Brief scores:

England 351/8 in 50 overs (Ben Duckett 165, Joe Root 68; Ben Dwarshuis 3-66, Marnus Labuschagne 2-44, Adam Zampa 2-64) vs Australia.
