Mangaluru: St Agnes College organises an awareness programme on ‘POSH’

Mangaluru, Feb 24: The Department of Commerce at St Agnes College, organised an awareness programme on the "Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act" on February 24, at the conference hall for second and final year BCom students.

The session was conducted for final and second-year BCom students to educate them on workplace safety, legal rights, and the redressal mechanisms available under the POSH Act. The resource person for the session was Sharika Rai, HoD, SDM Law College and Centre for PG Studies & Research in Law, Mangaluru. She has also held the position of chairperson of the POSH committee and is a member of the Yenepoya Ethics Committee in the capacity of a legal expert.

During the session, Sharika Rai elaborated on the provisions of the POSH Act, 2013, its significance, and the responsibilities of employers in creating a safe workplace. She explained the role of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and provided real-life case studies to help students understand workplace policies and legal safeguards.

The session was highly interactive, with students engaging in discussions and seeking clarification on various legal aspects. The event was compered by Dersiha Sequeira while Slavia welcomed the gathering. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Hrithika.

This was an insightful session and provided students with valuable knowledge about workplace rights, legal compliance, and the steps to take in case of harassment. Through this awareness programme, students gained a better understanding of the importance of ethical workplace behavior and the legal framework designed to protect employees.
