Kasargod: Labourer dies after falling into river during dam survey

Kasargod, Feb 25: In a tragic incident, a 27-year-old labourer drowned in the Payaswini River on Tuesday, February 25 afternoon while conducting a survey for a dam construction project.

The deceased has been identified as T Nikhil from Alappuzha, who was working as a contract employee for a company named Origin.

Nikhil was part of a four-member team that had arrived in Pallangodu days earlier to conduct the survey. On Tuesday afternoon, Nikhil and another team member entered the river to carry out the survey when Nikhil slipped and drowned.

Upon receiving information, fire and rescue personnel rushed to the scene and retrieved Nikhil’s body. Despite their efforts, he could not be revived. His body has been shifted to the mortuary of Kasargod General Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The Adoor police station has registered a case, and Nikhil’s family members have been informed. They are en route to Kasargod.
