Bantwal: Car crashes into shop, elderly woman killed

Bantwal, Feb 26: An elderly woman sitting outside her son's shop was fatally injured after a car lost control and crashed into the store at Paledamara recently. She succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Sumathi (91), a resident of Vamadapadavu. She was seated on a chair outside her son Manjunath’s grocery store when the accident occurred.

Around 6:45 pm on February 23, a car driven by Shobha, traveling from Bantwal-Manihalla towards Vamadapadavu, lost control and rammed into the shop, hitting Sumathi.

She sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru. However, she failed to respond to treatment and passed away around 11:45 pm.

The accident was captured on CCTV, with footage showing the speeding car crashing into the shop and hitting the elderly woman. The video has since gone viral.

A case has been registered at Punjalakatte police station.
