Mangaluru, Feb 26: The Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Government of Karnataka, in association with Yenepoya Naturopathy and Yogic Science College and Hospital and National Service Scheme (NSS) - Unit I, hosted a special camp from February 19 to 25 at Ambedkar Bhavana, Balepuni gram panchayat.
The camp was inaugurated on February 19 by Venkatesh P, PDO of Balepuni gram panchayat and assistant director at Ullal taluk panchayat. The chief guest was Sukanya Rai, president of Balepuni gram panchayat. The programme was presided over by Dr Puneeth Raghavendra KR, principal of Yenepoya Naturopathy and Yogic Science College and Hospital. Guests of honour included Krishna Moolya, director of Jana Shiksha Seva Trust, and Sheena Shetty, Swachh Abhiyaan ambassador. Special guest Dr Ashwini S Shetty, NSS coordinator of Yenepoya University, was also present.




The organizing committee was led by Ajith K, NSS programme officer at Yenepoya Naturopathy and Yogic Science College and Hospital, along with dedicated NSS leaders, including Ashith.
The camp engaged volunteers in various community-driven initiatives. Health awareness campaigns provided free health checkups and wellness education for villagers. Shramadan (voluntary service) focused on cleaning public premises and promoting hygiene. Yoga and skill development sessions enhanced physical well-being and personal growth. Self-defense and leadership training programs empowered youth for the future. Environmental conservation activities, including plantation drives and school cleaning programmes, were also organized. Additionally, cultural and literary programs provided a platform for showcasing talent and fostering community bonding.
Each day of the camp began with flag hoisting, the NSS song, and a yoga session, followed by surveys, awareness drives, guest talks, and skill-building sessions. The camp concluded with a valedictory programme on February 25, celebrating the contributions of volunteers and their impact on the community.
This NSS special camp aimed to empower youth, bridge communities, and inspire social change while fostering leadership, responsibility, and service among students.
