Beirut, Feb 26: An Israeli drone strike claimed the lives of two individuals and left two others injured in the Shaara area of Janta, near Lebanon’s eastern mountain range.
According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA), Israeli forces also dropped illumination flares between the village of Alma al-Shaab and the town of Naqoura in southern Lebanon, escalating tensions in the region.
A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, in effect since November 27, 2024, was meant to halt nearly 14 months of hostilities triggered by the Gaza war. The agreement required Israeli military withdrawal from Lebanese territory; however, Israel continues to maintain positions along the border despite a February 18 deadline.
Despite the truce, the Israeli military launched a fresh wave of airstrikes in southern Lebanon, claiming to target Hezbollah sites. In a statement, the Israeli forces said they struck locations containing weapons and accused Hezbollah of violating agreements by conducting military operations in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon’s NNA further reported that Israeli drones carried out two additional strikes on Wadi Zibqin in the western sector of southern Lebanon. The Israeli forces also dropped flares over the Al-Dar area in the central sector of the southern border region, heightening concerns over renewed conflict.
