Amit Shah predicts NDA victory in Tamil Nadu’s 2026 Assembly elections

Chennai, Feb 26: Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah has expressed confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will form the government in Tamil Nadu following the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections.

Speaking at the inauguration of the BJP office in Coimbatore on Wednesday, Shah called on party cadres to gear up for a BJP-led NDA administration in the state. He asserted that the new government would eradicate corruption and nepotism while driving Tamil Nadu toward a new phase of development.

Taking aim at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Shah refuted allegations that the Central government was withholding state funds. He pointed out that the Modi-led government had allocated ?5 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu over the past five years, surpassing allocations made during the UPA regime.

Shah also accused the ruling DMK of being deeply entrenched in corruption. He claimed that one DMK leader was implicated in a cash-for-jobs scandal, while another was involved in illegal sand mining and money laundering. Additionally, he alleged that several DMK leaders were facing disproportionate assets cases, sarcastically remarking that “all those involved in corruption should take membership in the DMK.”

Furthermore, the Union Home Minister accused CM Stalin and his son, Udhayanidhi Stalin, of creating diversionary issues to deflect attention from governance failures. Specifically, he referenced CM Stalin’s call for an all-party meeting on March 5 to discuss the upcoming delimitation exercise.

Shah reassured that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already made it clear that no parliamentary seats would be reduced for southern states due to delimitation. He emphasized that constituency redrawing based on population would not alter the proportional representation of southern states in the Lok Sabha.

He criticized the DMK government for allegedly fueling unnecessary concerns about the delimitation process to divert attention from pressing governance challenges. The delimitation exercise, scheduled for next year, has emerged as a contentious issue between the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government and the BJP-led Central government.

On Tuesday, CM Stalin announced an all-party meeting on March 5 to discuss the matter, signaling the intensifying political battle over the issue.
