New Delhi, Feb 26: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy have successfully conducted flight trials of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Short Range (NASM-SR), marking a significant advancement in India's indigenous missile technology.
The NASM-SR, launched from an Indian Naval Seaking Helicopter, demonstrated its 'Man-in-the-Loop' feature, allowing in-flight retargeting. The missile accurately struck a small ship target in sea-skimming mode at its maximum range. It employs an indigenous Imaging Infra-Red Seeker for terminal guidance and a high-bandwidth two-way data link system to transmit live images back to the pilot for in-flight retargeting.

Developed by various DRDO laboratories, including the Research Centre Imarat and the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, the NASM-SR is currently in production with the assistance of MSMEs, start-ups, and other industrial partners.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V. Kamat have congratulated the DRDO, the Indian Navy, and associated industries for the successful flight tests, highlighting the missile's capability for in-flight retargeting.
