Mangaluru, Feb 28: The department of commerce at St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, organized an awareness programme on the POSH Act for first-year BCom students on February 27. The session aimed to educate students about workplace harassment laws, their rights, and the procedures for seeking justice in case of misconduct. The event was part of the institution’s initiative to create a safe and informed academic environment.
The session began with an introduction by Shamitha, who served as the emcee for the event. She welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, and students, emphasizing the importance of understanding the legal framework surrounding workplace harassment.







The chief guest and resource person, Sharika Rai, HOD, SDM Law College and Center for PG Studies & Research in law, conducted an engaging and informative session on the POSH Act. She elaborated on the following key aspects: the definition of sexual harassment under the POSH Act, the legal framework and provisions under the Act, the role of Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) in institutions and workplaces, case studies illustrating real-life instances of workplace harassment, steps for redressal and the rights of individuals facing harassment, and preventive measures that organizations and institutions must take.
Sharika Rai’s session was highly interactive and engaging, with students participating actively by asking questions and sharing their perspectives. She used real-life examples to explain the importance of awareness and legal protection in professional and educational settings.
A prayer song was rendered by Elcita and her group, invoking a sense of peace and positivity among the attendees. Hancy delivered the welcome speech, extending warm greetings to the guest speaker, faculty members, and students.
The session concluded with the key takeaways reinforcing the importance of understanding one's rights and responsibilities, encouraging a safe and respectful work and study environment, speaking up against harassment, and ensuring support for victims and was a good learning for the students.
