Rohtak, March 3: A day before the Haryana municipal elections, the body of a 22-year-old Congress worker was discovered stuffed inside a suitcase near the Sampla bus stand in Rohtak district on Saturday, police confirmed.
The deceased has been identified as Himani Narwal, a resident of Vijay Nagar in Rohtak, who was actively involved in Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. In the wake of her tragic death, the Congress party has called for a high-level and impartial investigation.

According to the police, passers-by noticed a suitcase near the bus stand and immediately alerted the authorities. Upon arrival, a forensic team was called to the scene, and it was confirmed that Narwal's body was found inside. Her neck appeared to have been strangled with a dupatta, leading police to suspect homicide. Notably, her hands bore freshly applied mehendi.
Her remains have been sent to PGIMS Rohtak for a post-mortem examination, police added.
The Congress party has reacted strongly to the incident. Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda questioned the deteriorating law and order situation in Haryana, demanding swift action against those responsible. Party MLA B.B. Batra called for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe, emphasising Narwal’s active participation in Congress programmes.
Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda expressed shock at the horrific crime, labelling it a "barbaric murder" and urging the state government to ensure justice for the victim’s family.
“The brutal murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal is extremely shocking. I pay my tribute to the departed soul and extend my deepest condolences to her family. This incident reflects the poor state of law and order in Haryana. A high-level impartial probe must be conducted, and the culprits should face the harshest punishment,” Hooda wrote on social media.
Vijendra Singh, the police station in-charge of Sampla, confirmed that a case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing. Police stated that further actions would be taken once the post-mortem report is received.
