Auto driver arrested for snatching Rs 1.05 lac, Rs 70,000 recovered

Jalandhar, Mar 4: In a swift action, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police arrested a man involved in a snatching case and recovered Rs 70,000 of the stolen money. The arrest was carried out by the Division No. 2 police team under the supervision of Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur.

The incident took place on February 25, when complainant Jagir Singh, a resident of village Pajiyan, Kapurthala, was attending to his wife admitted at Tagore Hospital. Around 1 PM, an autorickshaw driver approached him outside the hospital, claiming that his vehicle had broken down and needed help. However, in a sudden move, the driver snatched ?1,05,000 from him and fled the scene.

Following a detailed investigation, the police identified the accused as Tarlochan Singh, alias Goldy, a resident of village Sarala Ranua, SBS Nagar, who was currently staying at New Shiv Nagar, Jalandhar.

The police arrested Tarlochan Singh and recovered ?70,000 along with the autorickshaw (PB08-DG-5130) used in the crime. Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur stated that the accused had a history of theft cases registered against him.

She further reiterated that the police were committed to maintaining law and order and that criminal activities would not be tolerated in the city.
