Mumbai, Mar 10: The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution congratulating the Indian cricket team for their historic victory in the Champions Trophy.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis moved the resolution, highlighting India’s remarkable achievement as the only country to have won the Champions Trophy three times. “This victory is an unforgettable gift to millions of Indian cricket fans. Throughout the tournament, the Indian team displayed outstanding team spirit, which was truly remarkable,” he stated.
Praising Captain Rohit Sharma’s leadership, the resolution acknowledged his crucial role in the final match. “Rohit Sharma adapted his game brilliantly, playing a calculated knock of 76 runs that proved decisive in securing India’s win. His efforts deserve special recognition,” it read.

The Chief Minister also pointed out India’s dominance in international cricket, emphasizing that the country has now won two ICC trophies in a row—the T20 World Cup last year and the Champions Trophy this year. “Initially, there were debates about the form of senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, but they have once again proven that while form may be temporary, class is permanent,” Fadnavis remarked.
Special praise was reserved for spinner Varun Chakravarthy, whose journey from architecture to cricket was described as inspirational. “He left the sport, pursued a career in architecture, but cricket was in his blood. He made a triumphant return, and today, his spin magic has left the opposition in shambles. Alongside Kuldeep Yadav, he took crucial wickets that changed the game,” the Chief Minister added.
Fadnavis proposed that a formal letter of commendation be sent to each member of the champion squad as a token of appreciation from the House. Speaker Rahul Narwekar then put the resolution to vote, which was unanimously passed by both ruling and opposition members.
