Former minister Bakrabailu Subbaiah Shetty passes away

Puttur, Mar 10: Former minister B Subbaiah Shetty (91), a resident of Bakrabailu in Bantwal taluk, passed away at his residence in Bengaluru on March 10.

Shetty served as the MLA of Suratkal in two terms, 1972 and 1978, and was a cabinet minister under chief minister Devaraj Urs, holding portfolios of land reforms and education.

He completed his education at St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, and later pursued a law degree at the University of Madras.

He was initially appointed to a CBI post and served in Kashmir and Ladakh before resigning and taking up legal practice.

He later entered politics and served as an MLA and minister for nearly ten years.

In recognition of his contributions, he was honored with the D Devaraj Urs Award, Shantaveri Gopal Award, and Dr D R Bendre Award, among others.

He is survived by his daughters Uma Savanur and Reshma Savanur.
