Farmers raise red flag over Rs 86,300 cr Shaktipeeth highway project

Mumbai, Mar 13: Farmers in Maharashtra have launched a strong protest against the proposed Rs 86,300 crore Shaktipeeth Highway project, fearing displacement and loss of livelihood due to large-scale land acquisition.

The mega-infrastructure project, aimed at improving connectivity to major pilgrimage sites, has sparked outrage among landowners who allege inadequate compensation and lack of transparency in the acquisition process. Holding placards and shouting slogans, farmers gathered in large numbers, demanding a fair resolution before the project moves forward.

“Our fields sustain our families. If our lands are taken, what will we survive on? The government must listen to our concerns and provide rightful compensation,” said a protesting farmer.

Several activists and political leaders have extended support to the agitation, accusing the government of prioritizing development over people’s welfare. Meanwhile, state officials have assured that negotiations are underway to address grievances and find a balanced solution.

Despite the protests, the Maharashtra government maintains that the Shaktipeeth Highway will be a game-changer, boosting religious tourism and economic growth across the region.
