Sonipat, Mar 15: In a shocking incident on Holi night, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Surendra Jawahar, president of Mundlana Mandal, was shot dead over a land dispute in Haryana’s Sonipat.

According to police, the accused, identified as Monu, fired three bullets at Jawahar following an altercation related to a property dispute. The incident occurred around 9:30 pm on Friday at Jawahar village.

Gohana ACP Rishi Kant stated that Jawahar had purchased land from Monu’s relatives, leading to ongoing tensions. Reports suggest Monu had warned him against setting foot on the disputed land. However, when the BJP leader arrived at the spot to clear the land, Monu chased him and shot him at point-blank range.

CCTV footage captured Jawahar running into a shop, shouting “Maar diya, maar diya” (I have been shot), before Monu followed and fired three bullets, killing him on the spot.

The police have launched an investigation, and three teams have been formed to track down the accused. Jawahar’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and officials have assured that Monu will be arrested soon.
