New Delhi, Mar 17: Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, visited NITI Aayog’s Viksit Bharat Strategy Room (VBSR) on Monday, where he experienced firsthand an advanced AI-powered immersive center aimed at transforming evidence-based decision-making for policymakers across India.
Launched on March 7, 2024, the VBSR integrates cutting-edge technology to enable real-time data analysis at central, state, district, and block levels, allowing for more informed policy decisions. The facility boasts 27 interactive screens and a centralized touchscreen interface, providing a dynamic platform to assess data across various states, sectors, and government programs. Powered by AI-driven software incorporating machine learning and natural language processing, the room simplifies complex data interpretation, enhancing governance efficiency.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the VBSR on July 11, 2024, further underscored its significance in advancing India's vision of Viksit Bharat. Inspired by its success, similar AI-enabled decision-making centers are emerging across the country.
Among them is the Tagbin BoardRoomAI, an innovative solution designed to enhance corporate and governmental boardroom discussions with real-time insights and predictive analytics. In Bihar, the Bihar Institute of Public Administration & Rural Development (BIPARD) has launched the GenNext Lab, focusing on real-time data collection for improved governance. Additionally, the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) is developing an AI Strategy Room, equipping future leaders with interactive decision-making tools and live data analysis capabilities.
Ahead of his India visit, Gates commended the country’s achievements in public health, particularly its successful eradication of polio. Recalling his 2011 visit, when India recorded its last polio case, he highlighted the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's two-decade collaboration with the Indian government, researchers, and entrepreneurs to advance healthcare, agriculture, and digital innovation.
"The VBSR is more than just a data center; it represents a paradigm shift in governance. By combining cutting-edge AI with policymaking, we are empowering leaders to make more informed, impactful decisions for India's growth," said Saurav Bhaik, CEO of Tagbin, and a key visionary behind the initiative.
Gates’ visit reflects the growing global recognition of India's AI-driven governance advancements, reinforcing the country’s leadership in technology-driven policymaking.
