Nagpur, Mar 19: Nagpur has recently witnessed two distressing incidents resulting in the deaths of two individuals, each engaged in routine activities—one preparing to board a train and the other on a milk-fetching errand.
On December 28, 2024, Shushank Ramsingh Raj, a 25-year-old farm laborer from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, was traveling on the Hazrat Nizamuddin-bound Dakshin Express with his friend Kapil Kumar. Around 3:30 am, while the train was near Nagpur, four individuals attempted to steal Rs 1,700 and a mobile phone from Kumar as he slept.

Raj intervened to protect his friend, leading to a violent altercation where he was brutally beaten. Despite the severity of his injuries, the incident remained unnoticed by other passengers until the train reached Nagpur several hours later. The Railway Protection Force arrested the four suspects near Wardha while the train was still in motion.
In a separate incident in Arni, Yavatmal district, a minor girl was subjected to an attempted assault by an auto-rickshaw driver. The driver took the girl to a deserted location under the pretense of providing medication for her headache and attempted to assault her. The girl resisted and screamed, causing the assailant to flee. A colleague of the accused found the girl and returned her to her school, where authorities informed her parents and the police. The driver and an accomplice were subsequently arrested.
These incidents highlight the pressing need for enhanced safety measures and vigilance to protect individuals in everyday situations.
