Udupi, Mar 19: A major fire broke out near Sri Babbuswamy Daiva Mandir at Vidyamanya Nagar in Doddanagudde, Udupi, around 2 pm on Wednesday, March 19. The incident is suspected to be an act of arson by miscreants.

Due to the intense afternoon heat, the fire spread rapidly, reaching dangerously close to a high-tension power line.

Immediate action was taken by the Udupi Fire and Emergency Services, who were alerted about the fire. Within minutes, a team arrived at the scene and successfully extinguished the flames, preventing a potential disaster.

Had the fire continued to spread, it could have affected two nearby houses.

Fortunately, there were no occupants at the time of the incident. However, clothes left outside were at risk of catching fire.

The incident has raised concerns among local residents, emphasising the need for increased vigilance, particularly during hot weather conditions.
