Kundapur, Mar 22: A swift police operation led to the arrest of a man who snatched a gold chain from a woman in broad daylight in Yedthadi at Kota on Thursday. The accused, identified as Manjunath Mayya from Saligrama Karkada Bhatrakatte, was taken into custody on Friday, and the stolen gold was recovered.

The incident occurred when Seetha Bai, a resident of Yedthadi, was walking to a neighbouring house for a function. As she reached near Altaru Padumane, a bike-borne miscreant approached from the Yedthadi side and snatched her 28-gram gold chain before fleeing towards Mandarthi.

Following the complaint at Brahmavar police station, officers launched an immediate investigation. They examined CCTV footage from various locations within a 20 km radius, which provided crucial information about the bike. Based on this evidence, police traced and arrested the accused.

During interrogation, Manjunath confessed to another chain-snatching incident near Barkur Chaulikere, where he had similarly stolen gold from an elderly woman. He revealed that he had pledged the stolen gold at a cooperative society, which the police have now seized.

Manjunath, who was engaged in the parota business, had reportedly accumulated heavy debts, leading him to commit these crimes.
