Udupi, Mar 22: Thieves broke into the Sri Durgambika anganwadi center in Kodu Panjimaru under the Shirva police station limits and stole items worth approximately Rs 8,000. The incident took place on the night of March 20.

The miscreants forcefully broke the gate of Sri Durgambika Higher Primary School and then damaged the iron gate and door of the Anganwadi center to gain entry. They looted the storeroom, taking away a gas cylinder, cooking utensils, and food supplies, including rice, oil, and sugar.

The thieves thoroughly searched the storeroom and stole 90 eggs, which were stored in three trays for distribution to pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children under a government scheme.

There have been several minor theft incidents reported in the Bantakallu-Panjimaru area in recent times. Concerned residents are urging the police to take swift action and apprehend the culprits.

The burglary came to light on Friday when Anganwadi teacher Usha Devi arrived at the center. She immediately reported the incident, and a case has been registered at the Shirva police station.
