Bengaluru, Mar 22: Karnataka is witnessing a state-wide bandh on Saturday, as thousands of pro-Kannada organizations have united to protest against two key issues - the assault on a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) driver in Maharashtra and the contentious ‘Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill.’
The bandh, scheduled from 6 am to 6 pm, is expected to bring commercial activities and public transport services to a standstill. Over 3,000 pro-Kannada groups have called for the protest, demanding stringent action against those responsible for the attack on the KSRTC driver while also voicing concerns about the proposed governance bill, which they believe could negatively impact Bengaluru’s administration.

In Bengaluru, significant disruptions are anticipated, particularly in public transport. KSRTC and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) services are likely to be suspended for the day, affecting daily commuters. While private cabs and auto-rickshaws are expected to operate, a surge in demand may lead to increased fares.
Local businesses and markets across the city, as well as in other parts of the state, are likely to remain shut in solidarity with the protest. However, Kannada and farmer organizations have not extended their full support to the bandh, and schools and colleges will remain open.
Despite widespread participation, essential services, including medical facilities and emergency transportation, will continue to function without disruption. Authorities have advised commuters to plan their travel in advance, as roadblocks and traffic congestion are expected in key areas due to demonstrations.
