Sixers’ effort falls short despite four 20-point performers in loss to Spurs

San Antonio, Mar 22: The Philadelphia 76ers had four players notch 20-plus points, yet they couldn’t avoid a 128-120 defeat to the San Antonio Spurs. Quentin Grimes and Justin Edwards led the charge with 25 points each, but it wasn’t enough as the Sixers faltered late in the game.

San Antonio started strong, but the Sixers kept it close thanks to Guerschon Yabusele’s physical play, trailing just 28-26 after the first quarter. However, the Spurs took control in the second, outscoring Philly 36-26 to head into halftime with a 64-52 advantage.

After Chris Paul helped extend San Antonio’s led to 16, the Sixers mounted a furious comeback. Grimes, Edwards, Yabusele, and Ricky Council IV spearheaded a 43-point third quarter, with Council’s deep three-pointer giving Philly the lead entering the fourth. However, fatigue set in, and the Spurs took advantage, outscoring the Sixers 37-25 in the final frame to seal the win.

Despite the loss, several Sixers shined. Grimes extended his streak of 25-plus point games to six, while Edwards continued to impress as an undrafted rookie, potentially setting himself up for a bigger role next season. Yabusele battled through injury for a dominant performance inside, and Council bounced back from a tough night against the Thunder to notch a career-high 20 points.

The Sixers, now 23-47, continue their six-game road trip on Sunday against the Atlanta Hawks as they fight for lottery positioning.
