US airstrike hits Houthi-held Sanaa, one dead, 15 injured

Sanaa, Mar 24: At least one person was killed and 15 others injured, including three children and two women, in a US airstrike on a residential building in Yemen’s Houthi-controlled capital Sanaa, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported.

The strike, which occurred in Asr, a western suburb of Sanaa, was described as ‘very violent’ by local residents, with rescue teams still searching for possible survivors under the rubble, according to Xinhua news agency.

The US military has yet to comment on the attack.

Hours earlier, US forces stationed in the Red Sea launched fresh airstrikes on Yemen’s northern province of Saada, a key Houthi stronghold, as part of an ongoing air campaign against Houthi-held territories.

The strikes came shortly after the Houthis claimed responsibility for launching attacks on the USS Harry S Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea and Israel’s Ben Gurion airport. While Israeli forces intercepted the attack, the situation has further escalated tensions in the region.

US forces have been conducting military operations in Houthi-controlled areas since mid-March, citing the group's alleged attacks on US ships and disruption of global trade routes.

US President Donald Trump defended the military action, stating it was a necessary response to protect freedom of navigation and warning that the US would use "overwhelming and deadly force" to deter further threats.
