New Delhi, Mar 27: India’s billionaire count has surged to 284, with their combined net worth reaching an astounding Rs 98 lakh crore, according to the latest Hurun Global Rich List 2025. The report, released on Thursday, highlights a 10% increase in the total fortune of the country’s wealthiest individuals over the past year.

Mumbai remains India's financial powerhouse, home to 90 billionaires—the highest in the country. India also retains its third-place global ranking in terms of billionaire numbers, trailing only the United States and China. The US tops the list with 870 billionaires.

The report reveals that 175 Indian billionaires saw an increase in their wealth, while 109 either witnessed a decline or experienced no change. The average net worth of an Indian billionaire now stands at Rs 34,514 crore. The country is also home to seven billionaires under the age of 40, primarily based in Bengaluru and Mumbai.

On the global stage, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, recorded the most significant wealth surge, amassing $189 billion over the past year. Musk has retained his position as the world’s richest individual for the fourth time in five years, becoming the first person to cross the $400 billion mark.
Amazon’s Jeff Bezos secured second place with a net worth of $266 billion, followed by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who made it to the top three for the first time, driven by growing investor confidence in Meta’s AI and tech ventures.

The Hurun list also featured prominent names from entertainment, sports, and social media. Among them were global music icons Jay-Z, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Paul McCartney. The sports billionaire club welcomed Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Floyd Mayweather, LeBron James, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi. Notably, Kim Kardashian was the only social media influencer to feature in the rankings.
