New Delhi, Mar 28: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge met with District Congress Committee (DCC) chiefs from Karnataka, emphasizing the need for unity and grassroots strengthening to ensure the party’s continued growth.
Addressing the district heads, Kharge acknowledged their role in upholding the party’s ideology and urged them to work collectively for the welfare of the people. "You remain at the forefront of protecting and promoting the values of the Congress party. We shall strengthen the party together and uphold the Constitution," he stated.

The meeting at Kharge’s official residence marks a strategic shift in the party’s approach, focusing on empowering district-level leadership. According to party sources, Congress is working towards granting DCC chiefs greater autonomy, including the authority to appoint and remove office-bearers based on performance.
Karnataka deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar, who attended the meeting, lauded the initiative, calling it a much-needed move to energize the party. "I am very happy with this initiative led by Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. Key aspects like media, social media, party assets, membership, and voter list verification are being addressed through extensive training. A great step forward!" he said.
Kharge also urged the district chiefs to focus on long-term strategies for upcoming elections. He emphasized that while the party’s ideology remains strong, electoral success is necessary to implement it effectively.
"Next year, elections will take place in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, and Tamil Nadu. It is your responsibility to ensure victory for every candidate in your district. You are our first line of defense on the ground, and your inputs will be crucial in shaping our strategy," he told the leaders.
With the Congress leadership prioritizing grassroots-level changes, the meeting is seen as a significant effort to reinvigorate the party ahead of key state elections.
