Mangaluru, Mar 29: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta announced that the central government has sanctioned Rs 26 crore for the temporary maintenance of the Surathkal to Padil stretch ahead of the monsoon. The work is expected to commence before April 10.
He further stated that the project will include cross drainage work at Thumbay, roadside cleaning (such as grass removal), and road safety markings. The tender for these works has already been floated. Additionally, work at Nanthoor is planned before the monsoon to facilitate a free left turn, which will also be undertaken soon.

Chowta added that the ministry of road transport and highways has responded positively to the request for dissolving the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) assuming full responsibility for the port connectivity road from Surathkal to BC Road.
Additionally, the extension of the Mangaluru-Kabaka-Puttur train service to Subramanya Road has been sanctioned, with the train tentatively scheduled to be flagged off in the second week of April.
Chowta also criticized the Siddaramaiah-led state government, alleging that it is running an anti-constitutional administration. He condemned the decision to grant 4% reservation to Muslim community contractors, calling it a violation of constitutional principles.
Furthermore, he stated that the suspension of 18 MLAs for six months is evidence of the Speaker acting as an agent of the government, making politically motivated and dictatorial decisions.
