Udupi, Mar 31: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged on March 28, at the Court Hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office to establish the "district data centre, e-governance, and public policy cell" at Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), MAHE Manipal. This initiative aims to develop and implement essential software solutions to support various projects of the district administration and enhance operational efficiency.
The event was graced by Deputy Commissioner Dr Vidyakumari, CEO of Zilla Panchayat, Pratik Bayal, Superintendent of Police (SP), Dr Arun K, MIT director Commander Dr Anil Rana, joint director Dr Somashekar Bhat, district health officer Dr Nagabhushan Udupa, district medical officer Dr Prashanth Bhat, along with faculty members from MIT.

Dr Prashanth Bhat welcomed the gathering, while CEO Pratik Bayal emphasised that this unique collaboration with a neighbouring university to establish a district data centre is the first of its kind in the country. He highlighted that this initiative would provide innovative solutions to various challenges faced by the district administration, utilising students' creative thinking. Furthermore, it would help authorities efficiently track key performance indicators for governance.
Commander Dr Anil Rana, director of MIT, expressed that the MoU would allow students to engage in solving real-world societal challenges. He added that different departments at MAHE University would actively contribute to addressing governance challenges through innovative solutions.
"We have already collaborated with the district administration in various capacities, and we look forward to strengthening this partnership in the future," he stated.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Vidyakumari welcomed such partnerships with universities, emphasising that they provide an opportunity for students to act responsibly towards society and develop a sense of civic duty. She stated that this MoU would benefit both the district administration and the student community alike.
