Tehran, Apr 2: Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to adopt a clear and firm stance against threats targeting Iran's nuclear facilities.

Speaking during a press conference in Tehran on Saturday, Amir-Abdollahian expressed concern over recent threats made by certain countries, which he claimed were aimed at undermining Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities. He urged the IAEA to uphold its impartiality and condemn any rhetoric or actions that could jeopardize the safety and security of Iran’s nuclear sites.

“The IAEA, as an international body responsible for monitoring nuclear activities, must respond decisively to any threats against the sovereignty and legitimate rights of its member states,” Amir-Abdollahian stated.

He also reiterated Iran’s commitment to cooperating with the IAEA under the frameworks of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement. However, he warned that continued threats against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure could have “serious repercussions” for regional and global security.

Amir-Abdollahian’s comments come amid heightened tensions between Iran and several Western countries over its nuclear programme. While Iran insists its nuclear activities are entirely peaceful, concerns persist over potential military dimensions.

The Iranian Foreign Minister further stressed that constructive dialogue and mutual respect remain essential for resolving outstanding issues, urging the IAEA to resist external political pressure and maintain its independence.

There has been no immediate response from the IAEA regarding Amir-Abdollahian’s remarks.
