Mangaluru, April 5: A video of a reckless scooter rider ignoring multiple traffic laws has sparked action from the Mangaluru Traffic Police, after it went viral on social media.

The video, captured on March 23 between 4 pm and 4:10 pm, shows the rider covering the rear number plate with a plastic cover and riding without a helmet in the busy Bendorewell, Kankanady, and Pumpwell areas of the city.

The footage quickly caught the attention of local authorities. Acting on the viral video, the Mangaluru traffic police utilised their technical resources to trace the scooter and its rider. Within hours, the scooter with the registration number KA-19-HT-1944 was identified.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the rider had committed multiple traffic violations. These included riding without a helmet, using a concealed number plate, negligent driving, driving without a valid licence, and using a mobile phone while riding. As a result, the rider was fined Rs 5,500 under the Motor Vehicles Act.

In response, the Mangaluru traffic police issued a stern reminder to the public about adhering to road safety rules, highlighting the serious consequences of such violations.

Authorities stressed the importance of following traffic regulations for the safety of all road users.

Okay, this is a one-off catch thanks to someone highlighting it through a video. There are countless cases of different variations—speeding, drunk driving, driving without a helmet. And there’s an innovative way of greasing palms! My humble request to traffic cops is to conduct a dedicated drive for a week to catch these erratic drivers.”

Honestly there are countless two wheelers without rear number plate in Mangalore and Udupi districts and this is no coincidence. And this is not limited to just two wheelers but also to many tippers. This is a deliberate attempt to escape the law. And only those who blatantly break traffic rules indulge in this crime. There is a high possibility that some of these may be involved in hit and run cases too. Or perhaps involved in drug smuggling as well. Traffic police should have a two point barricade so the offender cannot escape. If they run from the first point, they can be caught at the second barricade atleast. If the cops dont act, some day this may lead to a major mishap.
