Bhopal, Apr 8: In a shocking revelation that has sent ripples through Madhya Pradesh's healthcare system, a man posing as a cardiac surgeon has been arrested for allegedly performing heart surgeries without any formal medical qualification.
The accused, identified as Rajeev Sharma, was operating in a private hospital in the Gwalior district, where he had reportedly conducted multiple cardiac procedures over the past year. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the health department and local police conducted a raid and unearthed the fraudulent practice.

According to officials, Sharma had forged documents and claimed to hold advanced medical degrees from reputed institutions. He had even managed to gain the trust of patients and hospital management, posing confidently as a specialist in cardiac care.
“Initial investigations reveal that he has no valid medical degree. It is deeply disturbing that such a serious breach went undetected for so long,” said a senior health official.
Authorities have launched a detailed probe to assess the extent of the malpractice and determine whether any patients were harmed as a result of Sharma’s actions. The hospital, too, is under scrutiny for failing to verify the credentials of the accused.
The incident has raised grave concerns over regulatory lapses in private hospitals and the need for stringent checks to prevent such fraudulent medical practices.
Sharma has been taken into custody and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges related to cheating, forgery, and endangering human life.
Health officials have assured the public that all patients treated by Sharma will be contacted and offered free check-ups by certified professionals.
