Houthis claim missile strike on Tel Aviv, say US warships targeted in Red Sea

Sana'a, Apr 8: In a bold escalation, Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Monday claimed to have launched missile strikes on a “military target” in Tel Aviv and targeted two American warships operating in the Red Sea.

According to a statement issued by the Houthi military spokesperson, the attacks were part of what the group described as a continued campaign of solidarity with the Palestinian people amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

“Our missile and drone units successfully struck a sensitive military position in Tel Aviv, and two US naval vessels in the Red Sea,” the statement claimed, without providing visual or satellite proof.

There was no immediate confirmation from Israeli defense forces or the United States military regarding any such incidents. Israeli media outlets and regional observers have so far reported no missile activity over Tel Aviv as of Monday evening.

The Houthis, who control large parts of northern Yemen including the capital Sana’a, have in recent months intensified their missile and drone activity in the Red Sea and surrounding areas, especially targeting vessels and interests they allege are linked to Israel and the US.

International security analysts have raised concerns over the group’s increasing military capabilities and the potential risks to global maritime traffic through the Red Sea — a critical route for international trade.

Tensions in the region remain high, with calls growing from the international community for restraint and dialogue to prevent a broader regional conflict.
